President, Spokane Community College
Dr. Ryan Carstens brings 32 years of service in numerous administrative and leadership roles at multiple institutions in various states designing systems that span the entire student life cycle and support college efforts to improve student success. Currently serving as President at Spokane Community College, his prior work includes faculty and department chair roles, as well as collaborative and leadership service at several rural college districts, an urban college, various multi-campus colleges, and several other nationally recognized multi-college districts such as Dallas, Maricopa, Lone Star, and Salt Lake. Ryan earned his doctoral degree from the Community College Leadership Program (CCLP) at the University of Texas at Austin. His prior formal education includes an M.S. from Oklahoma State University (OSU) in Curriculum & Instruction and a B.S. from OSU in German with a Social Studies minor and a teaching certificate.
Specific prior work includes leadership for various technology and distance learning initiatives, extension and off-campus programs, dual-credit programs, professional and faculty development programs, grant development and management, curriculum and program development, online and onsite student services, facility construction projects, marketing and branding initiatives, public school and industry partnerships, and library consortiums.
